Tara Mataraza Desmond is a writer, cookbook author and recipe developer.
Her first cookbook, Almost Meatless: Recipes That Are Better for Your Health and the Planet, co-authored with Joy Manning, was released from Ten Speed Press in 2009. Her second book, Choosing Sides: Classic and New Accompaniments for Any Meal is due out from Andrews-McMeel Publishing in 2013.
She writes about food and nutritious eating in print and online, including for Parents Magazine, Parents.com, Better Homes and Gardens Specialty Publications, and as a regular contributor to Clean Eating Magazine. Her co-written weekly column, Meat Lite on SeriousEats.com ran on the award-winning website for a year and a half. She has consulted and developed original recipes for Whole Foods Market’s Health Starts Here program.
Mataraza Desmond has been a guest on national radio and television shows, including Martha Stewart Omnimedia Sirius Radio programs, Everyday Food and Whole Living; NPR’s Food Schmooze with Faith Middleton; and NBC 10’s The 10! Show.
She has cooked and tested recipes for a number of Food Network television productions, including Iron Chef America, Tyler’s Ultimate, Money Saving Meals with Sandra Lee, Throwdown with Bobby Flay, The Essence of Emeril, Emeril Live!, and Ultimate Recipe Showdown. Mataraza Desmond developed and photographed recipes as a consultant for celebrity chef and Top Chef winner, Stephanie Izard. She has contributed to several cookbooks.
Mataraza Desmond has been invited to host discussions about social media and cookbook publicity and writing for online publications at annual conferences of the International Association of Culinary Professionals.

Mataraza Desmond is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University and an Associates degree in Culinary Arts from The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College.
Culinary expertise includes: cooking from scratch, healthful cooking, cooking for fitness, less-meat cooking, vegetarian meals, vegan cooking and baking, family meals, cooking for babies and children, and cooking for pregnancy.
